Thrive365: SIL specialists

Published on: Jan 28, 2021 at 21:50

The NDIS has tried to encourage new and innovative living arrangements. They have created funding for different types of NDIS homes: Supported Independent Living (SIL), Specialised Disability Accommodation (SDA) and Independent Living Options (ILO).

This is because in the past, there have been a lot of terrible places that people with disabilities have been forced to live in, because they had no choice and control. Many people lived in institutions, hospitals, nursing homes or group homes. They were often unhappy, abused or neglected.

Some providers who have Supported Independent Living (SIL) still have large group homes that look very similar to the old institutions. A lot of larger providers have SIL as just one of many things they do, and they use it to subsidise other services.

Thrive365 does things differently.

We only do Supported Independent Living, because we know how much difference a great home can make to a person. We only do what we’re good at, and we’re really good at SIL.

We see it in our residents. With our mindful and personalised support, they recover from injuries and diseases that they never thought they would kick.

We carefully choose our properties so that they are intimate and provide a sense of home for our residents. The largest property we have houses three residents only.

We also choose our property partners carefully. The people who build the NDIS homes we use are aligned with Thrive365 values: ensuring that our residents can live their lives with choice and control.
