Complex Care in Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Complex care is care provided to individuals who have higher level needs and require specialized level of support. These needs may be due to disability, illness, frailty in age or chronic conditions such acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, diabetes, epilepsy and other physical and/or neurological ailments. Also, such needs may be seen when an individual’s personal circumstances change such as when he/she returns home after a long hospitalization. Complex care provided may include complex bowel care, enteral feeding using specialized feeding equipment, tracheostomy care, urinary catheter care, subcutaneous injection administration, pressure care and wound management.
